Why non-law students make great lawyers

With Ashurst, Mishcon de Reya, Reed Smith and ULaw

Join us on the afternoon of Tuesday 3 June for a virtual student event in partnership with The University of Law (ULaw), geared towards non-law students looking to enter the legal profession.

The event features solicitors from a range of practice areas at Ashurst, Mishcon de Reya and Reed Smith, alongside a ULaw tutor who was previously in practice themselves. To provide students with a broad insight into the legal industry, the speakers will delve into their respective practice areas, as well as sharing their views on what future changes we can expect in the legal market.

As the legal profession continues to evolve, those who possess a combination of different skillsets have found themselves in high demand. The speakers, many of whom studied non-law subjects before joining the industry, will advise students on how to take advantage of their non-legal backgrounds to secure training contracts with leading firms.

The speakers

Alexandra Brosens-Doy, associate in the real estate team at Ashurst
Eve Drysdale, associate in the tax team at Mishcon de Reya
Oliver Smith, trainee at Reed Smith
Phyllida Roberts, head of law conversion courses at The University of Law

After a Question Time-style panel discussion chaired by a Legal Cheek journalist, there will be virtual networking with the speakers, trainees from the firms and members of their early careers teams. This is also a great opportunity to follow up with ULaw’s tutor, student recruitment team and current non-law students, and to find out more about making the transition to law via ULaw’s Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL).

Apply to attend above. You’ll be asked to submit two questions for the speakers.
