Join us on the afternoon of Thursday 22 October for a virtual student event with Reed Smith exploring what commercial awareness looks like in reality.

As businesses respond to shifting markets, new technologies and geopolitical pressures, commercial lawyers need to understand not just the law but the wider forces shaping their clients' decisions. A panel of Reed Smith lawyers will explore some of the key business and economic issues affecting their clients, considering how developments beyond the law can influence commercial strategy and the advice lawyers provide.

Drawing on examples from their own practice, the speakers will discuss how wider trends, including economic and geopolitical change, technology and AI, translate into real challenges and opportunities for businesses. This will give students insight into the commercial context behind legal work.

The speakers

• Harry Clark, associate in the entertainment and media group
• Shivana Agarwal, associate in the energy and natural resources group
• Rebecca Schrod, senior early careers recruitment and development manager
• Further speakers to be announced

The panel will also reflect on their career journeys to date and share advice on how students can build their commercial awareness and demonstrate it effectively during the recruitment process.

After the short talks and panel discussion, there will be virtual networking with the speakers, Reed Smith trainees and members of the firm’s early careers team.

Apply to attend above. You will be asked to submit two questions for the firm.
