Join us on the afternoon of Friday 6 November for a virtual student event in partnership with The University of Law (ULaw) exploring the big commercial awareness themes that aspiring lawyers need to focus on as they apply for vacation schemes and training contracts.

The event kicks off with a panel discussion chaired by a Legal Cheek journalist featuring lawyers from DWF, Goodwin, Irwin Mitchell, Morrison Foerster, Squire Patton Boggs and TLT, alongside a careers expert from ULaw.

The speakers will consider key topics including the boom in artificial intelligence (AI) and the shift to a greener economy, as well as the effect of tumultuous geopolitics — and explain how their effect shapes clients’ priorities and the day-to-day lives of lawyers. They will also discuss their career journeys and give advice to students hoping to follow a similar path.

The speakers

• Paul Maddock, partner in the dispute resolution team at DWF
• Andrew Pollock, partner in the investment funds and capital team at Goodwin
• Shah Qureshi, partner and head of the employment and professional discipline team at Irwin Mitchell
• Jon Chesman, director in the restructuring & insolvency practice at Squire Patton Boggs
• Maria Connelly, partner and head of future energy & real estate at TLT
• Further speakers to be announced

After the panel discussion, there will be virtual networking with trainees and early careers team members from the firms, as well as ULaw student ambassadors and student recruitment team members.

Apply to attend above. You’ll be asked to submit two questions for the panel.
